The Haiti Adolescent Girls Network (HAGN) began in 2010 and is a network of local and international nongovernmental organizations working together to break cycles of poverty and violence by strengthening the “protective assets” of girls (ages 10 – 19) and improving their social and emotional well-being, financial literacy, and health.  

Named locally Espas Pa Mwen or my space, these girl spaces facilitated by older girls, commonly called mentors, provide girls with safe girl-only spaces to meet regularly in their communities, access to positive female role models to provide accompaniment and training on content related to financial literacy, sexual and reproductive health, and life skills.  All of these aspects work together to increase girls’ self-esteem, build local girl leadership, promote gender equality, allow girls to develop thoughtful and ambitious life plans, avoid early marriage and pregnancy and stay healthy.

HAGN is looking to partner with a consultant that can help develop the mentor structure, document mentors’ ideas and feedback into guiding documents, including internal regulations, and help strengthen their leadership and skills for active participation in the development of their communities. 

The National Mentor Council will form a small leadership team of girls representative of the various regions to ensure effective communication and decision making.  The small leadership team will be interacting with HAGN leadership to channel girls’ voice and concerns.  The Council will hold its first three-day annual meeting, during which mentors will receive training on leadership, as well as hold sessions on community projects, which will inform a small grant program for 2018.


The consultant’s responsibilities are to:

1.      Realize focus groups with mentors in regions, including training of the facilitators

2.      Organize the mentors regional council meetings

3.      Organize the 1st annual conference of national mentor council, including training on leadership

4.      Create a blog (accessible on smartphones provided to mentors for digital monitoring) and communication materials around the new structure


·         Guiding documents, including structure, communication plan, decision-making process, roles and responsibilities

·         Reviewed proposals developed by mentors with support from the consultant

·         Training on leadership and proposal development

·         Focus groups planning, including reports


Selection Criteria

§  At least five (5) years of relevant professional experience in the development of network and has working particularly with young girls and with young people in difficult environments.

§  A demonstrated creativity and proactivity in the proposition and development of activities, as well as conceptual and writing skills.

§  Experience in training delivery

§  References of relevant past deliverables and projects such as a network developer

§  Degree in development or other related field

§  Ability to work with youth and adolescents

§  Have a good ability to work with team

§  Have a great deal of communication with various groups for field trips

§  Creative, dynamic

§  Fluent in French, Haitian Creole definitely a plus

§  Availability to travel for short period
